Sanders Accuses Trump, Netanyahu of Prolonging Middle East War

(MENAFN) US Senator Bernie Sanders on Tuesday blamed President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for extending what he described as an escalating and deadly conflict across the Middle East.

Sharing figures on the US social media platform X, Sanders stated that around 3,375 people have been killed in Iran, with more than 26,500 others injured. He also reported 2,702 deaths and 8,311 injuries in Lebanon. According to his data, additional violence in Gulf states has resulted in at least 28 deaths and over 289 injuries.

In Israel, Sanders said there have been 26 fatalities and 7,791 injuries, while US forces have recorded 13 troop deaths and 381 wounded personnel.

“Enough of Trump and Netanyahu's endless wars,” Sanders wrote.

Tensions across the region have intensified since US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which prompted Iranian retaliation and disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was introduced on April 8 following mediation efforts by Pakistan, but subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting settlement. The truce was later extended by Trump without a defined end date.

Since April 13, the US has also imposed a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime movement in the strategic waterway.
